A Jack Petchey Adventure: Funding young people to experience an adventure-packed two night residential

The Jack Petchey Foundation and London Youth have teamed up for a second year to provide young people with an opportunity they have perhaps never had the chance to take up before – going on a residential in the great outdoors.

Important things to note:

  • You will need to be running The Jack Petchey Achievement Award scheme or have at least submitted an application to take part in this programme by the time of your residential
  • You will need to arrange travel; although, do let us know in your application if assistance is required
  • The young people you bring need to be between the ages of 11-25
  • We will invoice you for a non-refundable deposit of £5 per young person attending, to help ensure commitment to this experience
  • You will be required to complete all necessary evaluation activities from beginning to end of this experience
  • In the application form, you will need to demonstrate how this will benefit the young people you support
  • Lastly, have a great time!

Why is Jack Petchey funding this?

Young people’s mental health, education, and employment prospects have all been hit hard by the pandemic. But losing the chance to spend time away on an outdoor adventure, missing out on these formative childhood experiences, has been one of the unkindest impacts of Covid. That’s why the Jack Petchey Foundation and London Youth have teamed up for a second year to provide young people with an opportunity they have perhaps never had the chance to take up before – going on a residential in the great outdoors.

We are all intuitively aware of the benefits of playing and learning outdoors. High-quality outdoor education has been integral to London Youth’s offer for 75 years – firstly at Woodrow High House in the Chilterns and then from the mid-1960s at Hindleap Warren on the Ashdown Forest. The Jack Petchey Foundation has been a strategic and loyal investor in this work – most recently in establishing the groundbreaking Petcheyfied Zone at Hindleap. This new and exciting project will fund young people to be taken on an adventure-packed two night residential in 2023. Read on to find out how your group can get involved.

In order to understand more about your experience and the impact the visit had, we’ll be asking young people and group leaders to answer a short survey at the end of your visit. We will also send out a short survey 3-4 months after the visit, asking the group leader about the young people’s reflection and their own, with the perspective of time. It is possible we will ask you to participate in a focus group, too. We will share accumulated results with you as we report to the funder.

Applications for this year are now closed.

Although applications have now closed, London Youth members are able to attend a residential centre at a discounted rate. Book your visit, and claim your discount today.
