At this year’s Sustainable City Awards London Youth was awarded the category winner for ‘Greening the Third Sector’.

This was one of the twelve category awards and focuses on the efforts of voluntary groups to improve their environmental performance and build a sustainable society.

The award was presented by Raymond Blanc and accepted by Chloe Toland and Sarra Dore representing Samuel Montagu Youth Centre and Marlon Gibbins on behalf of London Youth.

It is a fantastic achievement and truly recognises the dedication and commitment of both London Youth and our member clubs.

‘Launched in Summer 2011, London Youth’s new Urban Nature programme is building on the passion and skill London Youth uses to support youth action in the capital in order to develop young people’s relationship with their natural environment.

Our Judges felt that Urban Nature works because it is based in youth clubs and community organisations – spaces where young people feel comfortable and where they can develop ideas on their own terms.

All in all, this project is an inspirational model for the concept of Big Society.’

Simon Mills, Head of Sustainable Development for the City of London
