Notes from the Wellbeing and Mental Health Network, April 2019
09 April 2019
On Friday 5th April, our Wellbeing and Mental Health Network met for their latest meeting.
The network aims to help youth professionals better support the wellbeing and mental health needs of the young people they work with. The network brings together our members and other interested youth mental health specialists to address the challenges they face in this area. It is also a forum to provide practical support to recipients of the London Youth Development Grant.
The Mix
The Mix are a national charity providing free and confidential multi-channel counselling services to young people between the ages of 13 and 25 years old. Their vision is that all young people should be able to make informed choices about their physical and mental wellbeing so that they can live better lives.
Italia Jensen, Youth Participation Manager, spoke about The Mix’s purpose and model, and how they can work with other youth organisations to support young people’s mental health.
Kooth
Kooth is an online counselling and wellbeing support service for children and young people developed and run by XenZone. It provides young people with a number of ways to learn about mental health, to connect anonymously to their peers, and to access personalised counselling services.
Denise Brown, Service Integration & Participation Worker, stressed the strong privacy and moderation approach of the service and the benefits to young people of being able to anonymously publish blogs about issues that they are worried or unsure about, such as dealing with anxiety.
