London Community Response Fund

  • £5+ million emergency fund coordinated by London Funders and funded by the Greater London Authority (GLA), City Bridge Trust, Bloomberg LP, John Lyons’ Charity, Paul Hamlyn Foundation, Trust for London, and Julia and Hans Rausing Trust. To support community and voluntary organisations facing immediate financial pressures and uncertainty because of COVID-19.

HM Government

  • Portal for all Government advice on COVID-19.
  • Guidance for Employers: Guidance for all employers (including charities) on responding to COVID-19, including financial support.
  • Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme: HMRC will reimburse employers (including charities) 80% of furloughed workers wage costs, up to a cap of £2,500 per month, backdated to 1st March.
  • Support for Businesses: The government has announced a number of measures to support individuals and organisations to respond to COVID-19. We are expecting more clarity in the week of 23rd March of how much of this support charities are eligible for:
    • Coronavirus Business Interruption Loan Scheme: Interest free loans for businesses. The eligibility criteria suggests that charities will need to generate more than 50% of their income through trading activity to qualify.
    • VAT deferment: Organisations will not need to make VAT payments from 20 March 2020 until 30 June 2020.
    • Statutory Sick Pay relief package: Employers will be reimbursed up to 2 weeks’ SSP per eligible employee who has been off work because of COVID-19.
    • The DCMS Committee and a group of 100 MPs have written to the Government requesting more government support for charities affected by COVID-19.

  • The London Community Foundation have launched the London Communities Coronavirus Appeal, which has raised £0.25 million from Grosvernor BI, to support grassroots charities and community groups.

  • £3 million in £5,000 – 20,000 grants to small registered charities, or local arms of bigger charities, in the UK.
  • To help with specific UK COVID-19 related poverty relief projects
