Cold Spots Project – Bromley grants scheme

London Youth have partnered with Bromley Children & Families Voluntary Sector Forum and Community Links Bromley to deliver a project that tackles the issue of funding and support cold spots in outer London boroughs. The project is all about supporting small, local youth organisations in Bromley to access the funding and support they need.

About this Project

More and more families are being priced out of central London which has led to increasing numbers of young people living in outer London boroughs. In fact, 62% of young people aged 0-11 in London now live in an outer borough. We are aware that local people are responding, and new community-driven organisations are starting up offering local young people out-of-school opportunities. These frontline organisations, often born out of social action, are responding to need in their boroughs. However, because they are situated in outer London, they are often playing catch up with larger more established charities in terms of building skilled teams of staff, developing partnerships and being able to offer a full range of out of school provision. There are a number of ‘cold spots’ in outer London where community youth organisations require particular support and Bromley is one of those boroughs.

Aims of the project

  • Establish what barriers small youth organisations in face in relation to accessing the funding, training and support they need to flourish.
  • Provide an easily accessible grants scheme for youth organisation delivering in the borough.
  • Work with the local partners to tailor start up support for small, nascent youth organisations within Bromley.
  • Develop London Youth’s offer to better meet the needs of youth organisations based in outer London boroughs.
