London Marathon Charitable Trust grant supports thousands of young Londoners to get active
13 January 2020
London Youth has received a three year investment totalling £500,000 from the London Marathon Charitable Trust. We are delighted to announce that we are extending our sports programme, Getting Active, to 38 community youth organisations located in outer London boroughs.
This investment will see us able to support an additional 2,850 children and young people to:
- Increase their physical wellbeing
- Improve their mental wellbeing
- Improve peer relationships
- Develop more positive attitudes towards sport and physical activity.
With the London Marathon Charitable Trust, we want to change the narrative about what it means to be active.
We’ll work with trusted community youth organisations creating activity hubs that focus on fun, social experiences, improving wellbeing and offering active play/participation opportunities that young people want. This will be supported by our commitment to develop the next generation of coaches, leaders and role models, through access to training, and on-going support
Zoe Mellis, Director of Programmes at London Youth, said:
The Trust’s belief in community youth organisations is something that we are incredibly grateful for. Now we can continue to help young Londoners across the city, particularly those in outer boroughs, to improve their physical and mental wellbeing and reap the benefits of playing regular sport. ”
