fbpx Future City Leaders kicks off! - London Youth

16 May 2017

Saturday the 12th of May saw Future City Leaders kick off, with 20 young people attending our induction day held at St Luke’s Community Centre. The day was a great opportunity for our Future City Leaders to come together and find out more about their journey on the programme.

Over the course of the day a range of topics were covered, from leadership and assertiveness, to power in London and project management. It offered young people an overview of the sorts of skills and experience they’ll need to become future leaders.

There was also a significant focus on getting everyone in the room to think about themselves, their strengths and areas that they would like to develop. Using the Myers-Briggs personality type test, the participants could get to know more about their approach and how they work. This will be a crucial element of Future City Leaders, with each young person involved in the programme leading on a project of their own over the summer.

There was an incredible range of ideas presented during the Community stage, over five fantastic pitch events, from projects with homeless people to community days, so this is a great way to ensure that young people are given the opportunity to develop these further.

The Future stage will really kick off over the summer, when the Future City Leaders take part in several masterclasses, before attending a residential at Woodrow where they will receive a youth leadership accreditation.

To round off the induction day, the group enjoyed a trip to Nando’s where they were able to socialise with one another and celebrate kicking off the final stage of the City Leaders programme.

We are very grateful to our funders – City Bridge Trust and Morrisons Foundation – for their brilliant support for City Leaders.
