Active Check-in

Brief:A short starter activity

Equipment: N/A

Step by Step

  1. Name each corner of the room a number from 1-4.
  2. Ask the young people, “On a scale of 1-4, how are you feeling today?/How would you rate your wellbeing? Etc”
  3. You can develop this activity by naming the corners of the room different topics or emotions and have a follow up conversation.

Things to Consider

This is a very quick way to find out how a group are feeling at the start of a session, you will need to do follow up with any young people you are concerned for.

Explainer

It’s important to check-in on how your young people are feeling at the start of the session to inform how you approach the rest of the session and whether you decide to discuss certain topics of themes. Checking in using this activity means that young people are less vulnerable as everyone participates.
