Safeguarding Network

This network has been created to bring together youth practitioners and relevant stakeholders with safeguarding responsibilities. We create a space for youth organisations to share experiences, insights and useful tools with each other and learn best practice. You will be able to share your experience and thoughts through interactive discussions and have the opportunity to network with other youth organisations across London.
In advance of new training being launched by London Youth this autumn, our substantive session focuses on ‘adultification’. Broadly, this is the process where children are perceived as being more “adult” than their age with a greater focus on perceived risks of harm rather than their vulnerability or experiences of harm. This is linked to wider inequalities in society and can lead to detrimental experiences for young people – especially young people of colour. The practical session will explore the concept and the ways that safeguarding leads in youth work settings can reflect on their practices and organisational culture to ensure children’s rights remain central to building relationships and keeping people safe.
We will close with an open space for information sharing and tackling any issues you’re facing in your role. As with every Safeguarding network we will also deliver updates on recent developments in law and policy.

Important information about training:
- You can book a maximum of 2 people per organisation for an individual training.
- Online training is interactive, you must have connection to a microphone and cameras will be encouraged to be switched on to facilitate discussion and engagement during the session and/or in breakout rooms.
- Training Cancellation Policy – if you can no longer attend a training then please let us know at least working 3 days before the training so we can offer this training to someone on the waiting list. Cancellations made 2 working days or less before a scheduled training course may be subject to a penalty.
- We operate a waiting list for this training. If you find that a training is full and still want to attend, please email the Membership Development Support Officer. We will contact you directly before the training if there is space.
