Human Rights Education Training (Human rights principles and values)
22/11/2023, 9:30 am - 1:30 pm
Throughout history, every society has developed systems to ensure social cohesion by codifying the rights and responsibilities of its citizens. It was finally in 1948 that the international community came together to agree on a code of rights that would be binding on all states; this was the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). Since 1948 other human rights documents have been agreed, including for instance the European Convention on Human Rights in 1950 and the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) in 1990.
Aims and objectives
The training course will build youth workers, youth leaders, and practitioners’ knowledge on human rights. More specifically, the programme of the course will enable participants to:
- To understand key concepts of human rights
- Introduce human rights education in youth work and with young people and draw attention to its social value to counter human rights violations.
- Recognise patterns of human rights violations throughout history and get information on approaches to address and change them.
- Create an understanding of the causes, extent, forms, different targets, and consequences of human rights violations, especially for young people.
