Deepfake Literacy for Youth Workers

21 April, 10:30 am - 12:00 pm

Free

Deepfake threats are already affecting the young people you work with, from AI-generated nude images circulating in school group chats to voice cloning scams and manipulated content designed to mislead. Yet most safeguarding training doesn’t cover synthetic media, leaving youth workers without the knowledge or language to respond effectively.

In this session, you’ll:

  • Gain a practical understanding of what deepfakes are, how they’re created, and how quickly the technology is evolving
  • Experience hands-on detection exercises so you can recognise manipulated content yourself
  • Learn about the threats most directly affecting young people, including political disinformation, deepfake-amplified fraud, non-consensual intimate imagery through “nudifying” tools, and sextortion
  • Understand the UK reporting pathways and legal protections available to young people, including under the Online Safety Act 2023
  • Know how to respond if a young person discloses they’ve been targeted

At the end of the session, you can request the youth-facing version of this workshop for your organisation, delivered directly to your young people, completely free.

The Deep Truth Project (deeptruthproject.org) is a nonprofit organization focused on deepfake literacy education. Our workshops have been delivered across secondary schools, libraries, and community settings. We are members of the Media and Information Literacy Alliance (MILA) and Ofcom’s Making Sense of Media Network.
