What are the new restrictions?

From Wednesday 2nd December, new Tier 2 (High alert) Local Restrictions apply in London. You can find the new restrictions here:

  • You must not socialise indoors with anyone not in your household or support bubble.
  • You must not socialise outdoors with more than 6 people.
  • Some businesses can operate in a COVID-Secure manner, other than those closed by law.
  • Indoor places of worship remain open but you must not socialise with anyone not in your household or support bubble.
  • Organised sport, physical activity and exercise classes can continue outdoors.
  • Organised sport, physical activity and exercise classes will only be permitted indoors if it is possible to avoid mixing with anyone not in your household or support bubble. There are exceptions for indoor disability sport, sport for educational purposes and supervised sport and physical activity for under-18s.

What does this mean for the youth sector?

From Wednesday 2nd December, the National Youth Agency (NYA) guidance version 4 applies. You can read the guidance here.

For the first time, there will be different requirements for youth organisations depending on the age of participants.

COVID-19 Readiness Level: Red (Over-18s)

From Wednesday 2nd December, NYA have confirmed that youth sector activities for young people over the age of 18 must comply with COVID-19 Readiness Level Red:

  • Online and virtual youth sector delivery.
  • Detached and outreach local youth services (outdoors).
  • 1:1 sessions with high need young people (indoors).
  • Support groups indoors are permitted for vulnerable young people. A maximum of 15 individuals per group plus staff.
  • All facilities must be COVID-Secure and all services consistent with social distancing guidelines.

COVID-19 Readiness Level: Amber (Under-18s)

From Wednesday 2nd December, NYA have confirmed that youth sector activities for young people under the age of 18 must comply with COVID-19 Readiness Level Amber:

  • Online and digital youth services.
  • Detached and outreach local youth services (outdoors).
  • 1:1 sessions with young people.
  • Open access or targeted group sessions delivered indoors (bubbles of 15 plus staff).
  • All facilities must be COVID-Secure and all services consistent with social distancing guidelines.
