About the opportunity

The Wimbledon Guild Village Fair is a large, annual community event on picturesque Wimbledon Common. It is in aid of and organised by Wimbledon Guild, a local charity working throughout the borough of Merton. We provide practical help for people in crisis including: hardship grants, outreach, talking therapies, befriending, a bereavement service and activities for older people. The Wimbledon Guild Village Fair 2017 is on Saturday June 17th and has something for everyone - shopaholics, foodies and families alike. Enjoy the varied range of entertainment including food villages, shopping areas, children’s zones and special performances. The 2017 Wimbledon Guild Village Fair will feature: • Mediaeval jousting performances in the main arena along with a full day of exciting acts • Additional attractions e.g. Fun Dog Show, Adventure Village, Children’s Village • 200+ arts and crafts stalls • Food Village offering British and International food and Farmers Market • Dedicated Wimbledon Guild Village Fair website (www.wimbledonguildvillagefair.org.uk) What you can expect: You’ll be part of a team of over 100 volunteers to make this year’s fair the best ever. Volunteering opportunities are varied and include helping set the fair up, running the pet farm or other fun activities, selling raffle tickets and many more. Flexible time slots will give you time to relax and enjoy the fair so why not bring a friend along to volunteer with and we can give you a job to do together. What will the experience give you? • Lovely community feel and involvement in a good cause • A fun day out • A chance to meet new friends • Experience of helping at one of South London’s largest free outdoor event • Wimbledon Guild Volunteers t-shirt • Meals as appropriate, snacks and drinks throughout your time slot • You will be part of a great volunteer programme Some quotes from our volunteers from last year: • “Meeting other volunteers new to the day and getting good comments back from the public on their day at the fair.” • "It was a great opportunity to meet new people as well as enjoy the day." • "For me, it is always great to help out and giving my time for a cause." • "There was always someone on hand to help out and keep everyone motivated." • "There was a great atmosphere." • "Amazing organisational Team spirit and community cohesion brought about by Wimbledon Guild." • "Seeing lots of happy faces, it made a big impact."

About Wimbledon Guild

Our aim is simple: to help local people lead a better life by tackling poverty, supporting ageing and encouraging mental well-being.

What are they looking for?

The Wimbledon Guild Village Fair is an all-day event, and we need volunteers for different shifts throughout the day from 6AM to 7PM. Only applicants aged 16 and older will be accepted unless they are accompanied by a responsible adult. No particular skills are required, but there are some specialised roles, including: Stage Manager, Stage Assistant, where previous experience would be very helpful. We will hold essential briefing sessions during the week of the Fair (tentatively June 12th and 13th), where we will explain important safety information, answer any questions you might have about your assigned role(s), and also explain the organisation for the day. Please don't hesitate to contact us for more information!
