Head of Finance
We’re looking for a qualified accountant with strong practical experience of working in a charity, including significant experience of restricted fund accounting, and a good understanding of trading, tax and VAT in relation to charities. They will have had previous experience of leading all elements of a finance function, including statutory accounting and reporting in a similar sized organisation.
The successful candidate will have responsibility for financial controls and management accounting, leading a team of three reports at our offices in Old Street, London and at our two outdoor education centres, which operate as social enterprises.
We are looking for someone talented and ambitious, with a positive attitude to work and drive for improvement. The successful candidate can work flexibly within a team and act as a business partner – going beyond the number crunching to the strategic value of the function to the organisation. We’re looking for someone who can go beyond “keeping the score” on the finances and show financial leadership. Someone who can get the processes and controls working smoothly as the backdrop for producing meaningful reports, performance data and analysis that tells the story behind the summary numbers and drives performance.
We are looking for someone conscientious, highly organised and process driven, with a focus on the monthly finance timetable and financial controls – willing to get involved to get things done but also able to take a step back and see the big picture. The role requires strong written and verbal communication skills, combined with the ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion.
We are looking for someone who has an empathy with the vision and mission of London Youth – meaning a passionate commitment to helping young Londoners be the best they can be.
