Sports Development

London-wide competitions

Our calendar of sports competitions has variety, breadth, and reach - it’s shaped to meet the contemporary needs of young people. We run hotly contested long running championships in old favourites like football, athletics, table tennis, and cricket but we’re also about providing new initiatives chosen by young people themselves such as street 20 cricket, street dance, parkour and tag rugby.

As well as the exuberance of physical activity, the flush of competition, and sheer social colour, our events and championships are also about opening up new horizons. In 2011, more than 150 young people took part in our athletics event at Mile End Stadium many of whom had never visited an athletics club before.  Each year we take member clubs to the prestigious Arundel Castle Cricket Ground in deepest West Sussex and for most of them this is a jaw-dropping change of scene before they’ve even hit a ball.

We also get young people involved in more extreme sports, away from their every day environment. Last Ocotober we took 35 young people to Cornwall to take part in surfing, canoeing and abseiling as recognition of the hard work that they had put in at their club and in their community.
